The Unsurrendered Soul
Excerpts from Chapters

CHAPTER 1
Things Are Not Always What They Seem
If you have confessed this, then your Lord-not that tiny sweet baby in a manger on your Christmas cards-but YOUR LORD, the KING OF KINGS, the MIGHTY WARRIOR, is ready to live His life through you! He is ready to flood His love and peace and victor and power through you. He comes knocking expectantly because your born-again spirit cried out its invitation to Him, but your unsurrendered soul growls, "Nobody home, go away." And your soul immediately begins raising all of its strongholds and walls of defense to keep Him out of its innermost parts. Your born-again spirit calls out, "That's not true, Jesus, we're here! We're in here." Jesus just continues to stand at the door and knock. Someone has to be silenced here before He will come in and reign, and it is not your born-again spirit! This book is designed to help you decrease your soul's control systems and make room within yourself so that Jesus can come in fully and flood your whole being-your body, soul, and spirit-increasing His life in you in every way. The Keys of the Kingdom, Matthew 16:19, will empower you to make it so with effective prayers of binding your soul to God's will and loosing all of its strongholds and barriers. Your part will be to choose to pray in such a way.

CHAPTER 2

Diagnosis: Born Again, Unsurrendered, and Earthen

Come with me now to the virtual-reality office of Dr. Soul Care. He is about to read an x-ray of your unsurrendered soul and discuss it with you. Dr. Soul Care begins to speak, "We need to go over your x-ray today," as he holds a film of it up. You can follow along with your own personal X-Ray of the Unsurrendered Soul on the inside cover of this book. "It appears that there are several areas in this x-ray that we need to discuss immediately. I see some fairly significant areas of 'soul-disease' and many old wounds here. You've been through some things that happened long before you had any idea of how to deal with them, haven't you? It is always so sad when these things work out this way. So much brokenness occurs in the soul when you don't get all of the 'soul nutrients' that are necessary to make you strong and whole so that you can resist such wounding."

CHAPTER 4

Facades & Wrong Behaviors
Our unsurrendered souls are very good at false "agreement" with what God wants us to do. They will put forth ideas and prompt actions that appear to be the will of God, but they are actually self-promoting. The human soul can be extremely convincing that there are certain self-willed decisions that God agrees to let us make, certain ungodly things that He agrees we can have, and that wrong agreements we have entered into can be adjusted and prayed into alignment with God's will. That opens up a discussion of God's "perfect" will and God's "permissive" will, doesn't it? I think that this proposed understanding of the will of Almighty God is a very smart deception of the human soul (which Satan promotes as well). It helps it get what it wants if it can convince you that this is okay in God's permissive will. God does not have two levels of will for His children. It is human parents have four or five levels of decision making regarding their children. God's will was established for us so long ago that we cannot conceive the actual time involved. We are either in His will or we are not. I talk to so many people who have entered into a relationship, started a business, or have some kind of a ministry which they acknowledge probably was not done in God's will. They are convinced, however, that they can pray and convince God to bless their endeavor if they do everything right from now on. That is an intriguing proposition, isn't it? Thinking that we can pray and make God bless something that never was His will for us.

CHAPTER 5

Fine Tuned Prayer Principles That Mend and Heal
So much of this confusion about God's power to hold onto those who have confessed their faith and belief in His Son, Jesus Christ, comes about because of believers' lack of understanding about God. He is not on stake-out in heaven, training binoculars on us to see who is going to fail next. So many of us have learned too well how to beat up on ourselves with self-condemnation over our mistakes. We have to stop that. I heard one pastor say, "If my 18 month old son comes running up to me with a full diaper, I don't get upset and legalistic about it. I scoop him up in my arms, lay him on the bed, clean him up and powder him sweet, give him a kiss, and then set him down to run off to play. I don't get all uptight because he hasn't learned how to use a potty chair yet. He's my kid and I love him." Then he said, "Why can't we realize that we are God's kids and He doesn't turn away from us when we make a mess. He just picks us up, cleans us up and powders us sweet, gives us a kiss, and sets us back down to get on with life."

CHAPTER 6

Mother in a Mine Field - Part One

(Rosanne is speaking of her daughter) The Holy Spirit told me two years prior to Sharon's suicide (during one of her earlier attempts to end her life) that Satan could not touch her spiritually. I completely misunderstood this in the context of the dangerous power of her unsurrendered soul. The power of God's everlasting Gift of Life was being withstood and forced to remain in one place within Sharon-within her born-again spirit. That precious Gift of Life was being blocked from her mind, will, emotions, and her body by her unsurrendered soul's distrust of anything from God. I knew Christ was her only answer, but I just didn't understand how to work with that answer. I still don't. Even now I am only good at handing out your books to try to help people, not much else. Thank you for lending me your hope. I continue to talk to God about my willingness to share Sharon's life. The suicide of a born-again believer is not the most popular subject in Christian circles. The air can get sucked out of the room real fast because of the collective gasps when that word is spoken in relationship to Christians. I know.

CHAPTER 9

Power Leadership--Surrendered Souls With Servant Attitudes
As leaders, we do not have to be perfect, we do not have to be spectacular, and we do not have to affirmed and praised. Spiritual leaders need to examine themselves to be certain that they are not trying to meet their own unmet needs for approval, acceptance, and love that they did not experience as children, young adults, or even older. Ministering and leading that flows out of knowing the love of the heart of God can so warm the heart of the leader that no praise of man is necessary to feel affirmed and approved. Lord, if I am leading others because I have unmet needs that I don't know how to surrender to you, please show me. I want to open those things up to you and right now! I bind my soul to you, Jesus, with a full desire that the Holy Spirit would search me and try my ways. I loose all of the layers of self-importance and self-agendas that my soul has used to try to compensate for my unmet needs. I will make a way for you to get into my soul's deepest recesses where my needs are buried. I need you to meet them that I might lead with clean hands and a pure heart. I need you to refine my motivations for being a leader, Lord. I surrender my plans and purpose to you.

APPENDIX I

Teaching Others About the Keys

Five keys to successful teaching:

1.. Pray, Pray, Pray
2.. Prepare, Prepare, Prepare
3.. Practice, Practice, Practice
4.. Pray Some More
5.. Now Teach

Let's break them down.

PRAY, PRAY, PRAY: Whether teaching from the original Keys of the Kingdom Trilogy, or the other binding and loosing prayer books, I always recommend much prayer on your part. Pray, pray, pray to have a life-changer's heart. Practice the prayer principles daily in your own life. This is an absolute prerequisite to effectively teaching this information. Prayer accomplishes good things on several levels. One level is to bring your mind, will, and emotions into alignment with the Father. Another level is to pray for empowerment and the Holy Spirit's help, pray for the people you will teach, and pray to destroy the influences of territorial spirits.

1. Pray for yourself.
2. Pray for divine empowerment and the Holy Spirit's help.
3. Pray for the people you will teach.
4. Pray to destroy the influences of territorial spirits.

POINT 1. Lord, I desire to teach your Word to others. I bind my will to
your will, Father, so that I will be steady and stabilized as I teach for life change in my hearers. Remind me often, Lord, that I am only teaching so others might receive life-changing information. I am not to be a Bible wired for sound! I loose all preconceived ideas, wrong expectations, and misconceptions that I have believed about how to teach. I bind my mind to your mind, Jesus, that I will hear your thoughts and purposes while I am teaching. I loose all wrong attitudes and mind sets that my soul has developed. I seek your direction and your guidance, as I only want to say what you want said. Help me to develop understanding from your Holy Scriptures, help me make my message relevant and understandable, and help me to remember that I am only a vessel. It is your truth that must transcend my words. Amen

APPENDIX II

Teaching Kids About the Keys
Our SPIRIT MAN wants us to know Jesus better than anyone else because he knows that Jesus has all the answers to all of our questions. He knows that Jesus loves us like no one else in the whole world can. Jesus loves us even more than our mommies and our daddies. But, wait . . . we also have SOUL MAN living inside us.

(SOUL MAN comes in, dressed in yellow, singing rap style.)

I am SOUL MAN and I want you to know
I'm here to protect you wherever you go
With my mind, my will, and my emotions, too
I'll make good excuses to get you through
I can build walls to hide behind and lies to confuse
I can get what you want and see you never lose
Trust me, listen to me, just wait and see
All you have to do is think Me, Me, Me

(Then SOUL MAN walks around looking proud and bossy.)

TEACHER: Our SOUL MAN is made up of three things: 1) Our mind where he tries to control how we think (Yellow SOUL MAN points to head), and 2) our will where he tries to control how we make our choices (Yellow SOUL MAN holds out arms and makes muscles), and 3) our emotions where we feel sad, mad, or glad (Yellow SOUL MAN makes a sad face, and puts hands over heart).

Our SOUL MAN thinks it's his job to make sure that nobody can take any of our rights from us! He thinks he's helping us when he makes us want to get even if somebody hurts us. He's always trying to get other people to do what he wants, pushing them around, too. (Yellow SOUL MAN jumps into Karate stance-perhaps even shouting and throwing a kick). But, you know what, SOUL MAN really can't do these any of these things. He just gets us into trouble when he tries. We know the only one who can protect us and defend us, and get us what we need. Who is HE? (asking the children)
